Perseverance is hard work. When you persevere towards your purpose, you may find yourself feeling like the promise of fulfilling that purpose has lost its potential or like your willpower is not enough. And the truth is: You will come to the edge of yourself in the hard work of perseverance.
So, how do you do the hard work of perseverance?
In God’s story, Sarah is given a purpose to become the mother of many nations, but after 24 years she has not seen a glimpse her purpose coming alive.
But one day, something mysterious happens when three unnamed people appear outside her tent. They renamed her purpose saying one year from that time Sarah would have a son. She laughed to herself. And one of them said: “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”
Centuries later it would be said: “By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised.”
Sarah received power from God, because she faithfully persevered towards the promise of her purpose. May the same be said of you.
THIS WEEK: What feels like the hard work of perseverance right now? These are your “anythings”. Fill in XYZs with your "anythings": Is X too hard for the Lord? Is Y too hard for the Lord? Is Z too hard for the Lord?
PRAY: God of Perseverance, just like you gave power to Sarah to do the hard work of perseverance, give me the power to persevere. Is XYZ too hard for you? If you did the impossible in Sarah, then I believe you can do the impossible in me. Let it be so. Amen.
